About CountryGame

CountryGame is a free reference site for comparing the countries of the world side by side. Type in any two countries and instantly see how they stack up on population, economy, land area, human development and more — with a clear verdict on which one leads each metric.

Why we built it

Facts about countries are scattered across dozens of sources, buried in tables, or locked inside long articles. We wanted one place where a curious person, a student, or a traveller could answer a simple question — which country is bigger, richer, or more populous? — in a couple of seconds, and then dig deeper if they want to.

Every comparison is generated from open, well-established datasets and presented plainly: the numbers, the source, and the year they refer to. No spin, no walls of text before the answer.

Where our data comes from

Population and GDP figures come from the World Bank. Human Development Index (HDI) values come from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Country facts such as capitals, area, currencies, languages and borders come from established open datasets. Flag images are served from Flagcdn. Each page notes the source year for its headline figures, and we refresh the underlying data periodically.

Economic and demographic data is always an estimate and can lag reality by a year or two, so we treat every number as "latest available" rather than "live". If you spot something that looks wrong, we'd genuinely like to hear about it.

Who it's for

Students settling a geography debate, writers checking a figure, travellers sizing up a destination, and anyone who enjoys learning how the world compares. CountryGame is free to use and supported by advertising so it can stay that way.

What's next

We're expanding coverage to every country and adding geography quizzes and a daily challenge, so the site becomes somewhere to test what you know — not just look things up. Thanks for stopping by.
